Bring on the snow!

It's sad to say it, but summer in Winnipeg is over. Although today was a very nice day and tomorrow should be too, there's snow in the forecast. That means that it's time to change the summer tires over to the winter tires. Shannon and I both have the same type of tire - Nokian Hakkapeliitta RSi. They are excellent winter tires and served us extremely well last winter. In fact, this year my brother picked up a set of the new-and-improved Nokian Hakkapeliitta R tires this year due at least in part (I like to think) to our recommendation.
The changeover wasn't altogether smooth, though. It seems that every time I change the driver's side rear tire on Shannon's car I have one problem or another. This time around, it took my 3/4" socket and ripped it apart. I've never seen a socket break like that before. Fortunately, a quick trip to Canadian Tire and three bucks later and it was replaced. Although, while I was at CT, I also purchased a longer socket which works better for changing tires than the short stubby ones. It's the black high strength version instead of tempered steel. It's also almost four times the price so hopefully that means it will last longer this time...
Check out the remains of my poor 3/4" socket.

A minor casualty later and all the tires have been successfully changed on both our cars. Bring on the snow!
